Jonathan Esling is a photographer based in southern Tasmania.
He has a deep passion for Australian flora as well as for photography, so it is only natural that the two have been combined in his flora photography. From Banksias to Bossiaeas, Jonathan reveals the natural beauty of some of Australia’s most iconic as well as lesser known native plant species.
Jonathan’s photographic interests are not limited to flora though. He also enjoys spending long nights out under the stars capturing the wonders of the night sky, which of course includes the spectacular aurora australis, or ‘Southern Lights’. Exploring Tasmania’s stunning and rugged coastline also provides Jonathan with many photographic opportunities.
His work has featured in David Attenborough's Life That Glows documentary, in numerous exhibitions and various print and online media including National Geographic, Australian Geographic and Tasmania 40 Degree South magazines, a number of books including 40 South Short Stories Anthologies, Tarkine Trails, Aurora Chasers Handbook, front page of The Times newspaper and even on a postage stamp!
